Why is Bengaluru such a Sporting City? What explains the huge number of world-class sportsmen & women this city has produced and nurtured over the past century? 130 walkers decided to walk 10,000 steps from 7-10am this morning to find out!

And what a walk it was! Getting special access to venues – Hockey Stadium during an event with Sreejesh, Manpreet Singh & other India stars, Kanteerava Stadium for a run on the track a few hours before the BFC-Kerala Blasters match was about to kick off, the Kreeda Junction (Sporting Hall of Fame) flyover at KH Road that was celebrating its first anniversary, plus several stops at venues, institutions and locations that have huge significance in the city’s sporting history. And all within easy walking distance of each other – ON footpaths!

The walkers included an Olympian swimmer, a veteran hockey player who had played alongside Ajitpal Singh, Vece Paes and other legends in the 1970s, the family that owns the famous Olympic Sports store, and dozens more Bengalureans who are keen sports lovers and offered titbits of trivia and information all along the route.

This is the first time I am conducting such a detailed Sports themed walk, and I am thrilled with the way it turned out (being a die-hard sports fan myself, and very much a product of the city’s sports ecosystem) and I hope to do many more after the success of today’s walk.

BLRWalkFest 100KM challenge is halfway done – we have completed 50km on footpaths in the past week – another 50km to go.

Let’s Walk Bengaluru!
