Dec 5th: Colonial Cantonment

Video

Colonial Cantonment! Almost 100 walkers showed up at 7am at MG Road Metro Station despite the rain, and walked 12,000 steps over 3 hrs – on footpaths – exploring the Bangalore Cantonment.

They walked around the central axis (the Parade) – past command centres, military barracks, supply depots and soaked in the military ethos. This was followed by a walk down the erstwhile Cavalry Road, a veritable melting pot of cultures (almost a dozen temples, a dargah, a Cutchi Memon prayer hall and much more), and a pit stop at Sabha, the recently restored heritage building. The loop ended with a walk along St John’s Church Rd, Miller Rd and Ali Asker Rd – encountering multiple artefacts and memories of the cantonment’s storied past.

And at the end, as is the practice, the walkers rated the footpaths they walked on. The results of these ratings will be shared soon!

The BLRWalkFest has now completed 5 days and 43kms, on footpaths, and over 400 walkers have participated. We continue to receive amazing on-ground support from BBMP, Blr Traffic Police and BMRCL.

And thanks to hashtag
hashtag#BlrHubba for supporting the walkers with energy snacks enroute.
