WERE YOU THERE at the World’s LONGEST FOOTPATH RUN?
What a morning it was! Over 75 citizens, from 10yr old Veeksha (national-level skater) to 70yr old Shyamasree (from Tripura), showed up to run/walk/skate ON the footpaths in a 11km loop in Bengaluru’s Cantonment area.

We had ultra-marathoners, elected representatives, bureaucrats, BBMP engineers & sanitation officers, first-time enthusiasts who had never ever walked more than 3 kms, senior citizens, policemen from across the city, marshals from the BBMP, students and several others who came voluntarily from across the city to cover the 11km route. There was no free t-shirt, no breakfast, no goodie bag, no prizes – all came for the sheer love of the city. It was truly overwhelming.
Rizwan Arshad, MLA from Shivajinagar joined and ran the first 2kms, and the only reason he did not stay on was that he had to attend the Official State Function that started shortly afterwards!
Randeep D (IAS), Secretary to Govt of Karnataka, Youth Affairs & Sports, led by example and completed the entire 11km route.
Snehal R (IAS), Zonal Commissioner BBMP (East) was there to give the full support and has accepted the hashtag#BlrFootpathChallenge on behalf of her team (engineering and solid waste management)!
This was more than just a 11km footpath run.
I believe this is the beginning of something new and exciting in citizen-government partnership to create a better, walkable Bengaluru for all of us.
A big shoutout to all those who came, and are part of this video!
This event was part of the hashtag#BLRFootpathChallenge that encourages citizens to walk/run on, and rate, footpaths, with the aim of ensuring Obstacle-Free Footpaths (OFF) in the city
